In 2012, the Independence Bowl Foundation started the “Show Your Independence” Art Contest for local elementary students. Kindergarten through fifth grade students in Caddo and Bossier Parishes participated in the first contest, which had the kids draw what the word “Independence” means to them on a customized piece of paper provided to the students by the Bowl.

In 2013, the Bowl expanded the contest to DeSoto Parish, in addition to Caddo and Bossier. In each participating school, a winner from each grade level is selected by the school’s art teachers. The winners of each grade level will receive four tickets to the 2014 Duck Commander Independence Bowl, and their artwork will be on display inside of Independence Stadium.

Additionally, the winners’ artwork was submitted to the school districts, and winners from each of the parishes were chosen from each grade level. Those winners will receive special recognition during the game.

The “Show Your Independence” Art Contest is sponsored by CiCi’s Pizza on Youree Drive, Willis-Knighton Health SystemParty Central and LearningRX. The paper used for the contest will be printed and donated by Lapressco.

In addition, children can download and print the official “Show Your Independence” Art Contest paper, draw what the word “Independence” means to them, and take the drawing to Party Central for a free prize.
