The Independence Bowl Foundation is establishing a Charitable Donation Program, beginning this year, which will provide money to four area non-profit organizations each year.
The Independence Bowl Foundation will annually take $1 from each ticket sold to the bowl game – including team allotments – and will split that money up equally and distribute it to the four charitable organizations that have been selected for that year.
The program is designed to enhance efforts by local non-profit organizations to fill identifiable areas of need within the community.
“The Advocare V100 Bowl staff and Board of Directors want to continue to show their support for those in need in our community,” 2013 AdvoCare V100 Bowl Chairman John Hubbard said. “We know there are individuals and families in Shreveport and Bossier who need a helping hand up, and we are committed to being part of the solution.”
In this, the program’s inaugural year, two national charitable organizations have been pre-selected to be recipients by the Independence Bowl Foundation.
Wounded Warrior Project®, the 2012 recipient of the Omar N. Bradley “Spirit of Independence Award,” will be one of the beneficiaries of the Charitable Donation Program. The Purpose of WWP is “to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members; to help injured service members aid and assist each other; and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.”
The other recipient will be College Football Assistance Fund, which is “dedicated to the support of football players who have sustained serious injuries through college football. Assistance will be provided to ease the burden of medical costs associated with injuries such as joint replacement, spine treatment, neurological care and other related expenses.”
The final two recipients for this year will be chosen from local organizations and will be announced on Nov. 4.
The deadline for non-profit organizations to submit an application for this year is Oct. 18. Click here for the application.
